A look at the potential upgrades coming to the Scottrade Center

The Scottrade Center is in need of some updates and the St. Louis Blues hope the public will be able to help finance the renovations. According to the St. Louis Business Journal, the team believes the renovations will cost around $138 million and will include updates to concourses, the scoreboard, the cooling system for the ice, a creation of a Beer Garden and much more.

The arena is still using outdated technology (VCRs!) and the renovations could address issues such as cooling which forces the Scottrade Center to maintain a lower overall temperature which isn’t environmentally friendly or kind to the budget.

Financial figures for the team were also covered, with the ownership group reporting a $1.1 million loss in the 2015 fiscal year. A projected loss of $6.4 million is expected in 2016, though the reasons for the loss weren’t given. These losses were cited as the main reason the owners are looking for assistance.

The arena needs some work. The public may vocally oppose the push to include tax revenue in the arena upgrades, but it’s important to remember how important the arena is to the area and the city. There was an obnoxiously strong push to keep the Rams in St. Louis for a much larger price, and yet some will complain harder against the Blues and the need for an arena which can host hockey, basketball, concerts and more.
