A Monumental Victory for the Redskins

The Redskins secondary was all over the place Monday Night as the Washington Redskins pulled the upset in Philadelphia by the score of 20-12. The Redskins defense looked good against the run for the second week in a row, save a few plays when Brian Westbrook was able to slip loose. The tackling, while not perfect, improved greatly over the previous week. Donovan McNabb found himself unable to avoid the pass rush more often than he would have liked, and his limited mobility was apparent tonight.

The pass defense looked pretty good, although McNabb, who historically has had accuracy problems at times, definately missed open receivers more than once. The Eagles offense never found the end zone, and has only done so once in their two games this season. Carlos Rogers was picked on all night for little success (from McNabb’s perspective). The pass rush on McNabb was inconsistent at times, but provided an element against the Eagles that the Redskins had not produced in many years.

Jason Campbell was better than 7.5 yards per attempt on the night, and looked a lot more comfortable than his opponent on the other sideline. Clinton Portis scored on a 6 yard TD run, and Chris Cooley caught a 16 yard TD pass from Campbell late in the half. A win like this flips the NFC East on its side. At 0-2, the Eagles can no longer be considered the divisional favorite. The Redskins and Cowboys sit at 2-0, while the Eagles join the Giants at 0-2. The Giants come to Landover to face the Redskins on Sunday.
