Last year, it was a post-All Star Break start at Coors Field in which Ross Ohlendorf suddenly rediscovered his lost velocity. He’s piching very well right now, despite his one disastrous outing against the Astros right after the break, and seems to be back on track after his back spasms set him back way further than anyone realized earlier in the year (my theory, at least). His velocity was up a tick last start in Milwaukee (average fastball was 92, tops was 94 as opposed to 90/92 in the couple starts preceding it), so I think it’s time to start keeping an eye on him again.
The Rockies start Aaron Cook against him tonight, while the Pirates keep looking for that group of hitters that seemed so robust against Milwaukee and Houston next week. Of course, they might just be waiting to play Milwaukee and Houston again, which is at theory worth considering.
First pitch is at 8:40 again, tonight. Clemente/Cangelosi is after the jump.
Not sure what this is? Check here and here. Short version: in the comments pick the Pirates you think will be most and least valuable in today’s game. If you haven’t jumped aboard yet, it’s been a lot of fun so far and now’s as good a time as any to join in.
Most of last night’s contestants avoided a disaster when Neil Walker edged the Clemente from Zach Duke, as most people thought Duke would be the game’s Cangelosi. That honor instead belonged to Ronny Cedeno. The Cedeno/Walker combination pick got Garrett122 a +4 in his triumphant return to the contest, while the other two points were picked up on the Pedro Alvarez Cangelosi-runner-up.
