We’ve documented A-Rod’s douchiness here at D4L pretty thoroughly. And the dude’s douchiness never ceases to provide post ideas. Watch this video:
Yes, that’s Alex Rodriguez, arguably the best hitter to ever step foot on this planet, running across the pitcher’s mound after a foul ball. Yes, that’s Dallas Braden a pitcher with just a “handful of wins” in his career yelling at A-Rod to get off his mound.
But the story is, of course, that anybody who has ever played the game of baseball knows that unless you’re the pitcher, you don’t run on the pitcher’s mound. Even when you’re on defense, you don’t run across the mound to get to your position. It’s a Cardinal rule of the game. I have to believe A-Rod knew this rule, full and well. But, because he loves trying to get the extra advantage when his team is losing even if it means being a douch, he runs across it to get inside the dome of Braden. It works, sort of, but it’s also bush league as hell. Almost as bush league as this incident was. You just don’t fucking do it, the same way you don’t do chants in the dugout and you don’t yell “batter, batter swing” once you pass the age of seven.
Braden was right for giving him shit about it, although his reaction when he went into the dugout was probably a bit much. Unfortunately, because A-Rod is such a great baseball player, Braden will probably look like he’s in the wrong to some, if not most.
(For the record, at the end, A-Rod gives Braden the classic “you’re dismissed” hand motion, which is used when someone’s being stupid. This is a signature move of mine and some friends in college and I’m ashamed to see A-Rod doing it, too. Either I’m also a great big douche or A-Rod’s not ALWAYS a douche. Simply for the sake of keeping a loveable tradition alive, I will reiterate that Braden probably overreacted a little, warranting the hand motion. And A-Rod’s probably, and it pains me to admit this, not always a douche.)
