Sunday, while rehabbing for the Class-A Tampa Yankees, A-Rod was hit by a pitch on, of all places, his surgically repaired left hip. And the pitcher who hit him, well, his grandmother was ecstatic.
“I think (the New York Yankees star) thinks he’s kind of a hotshot. I don’t care for his personality,” 80-year-old Marilyn Meyers told the New York Daily News. “He just thinks he’s better than the other boys.”
That's great, but what about Cody Scarpetta, the pitcher for the Brevard County Manatees?
"I was really trying to throw it for a strike and it just went the other way," Scarpetta said following the game. “It was the last thing I was trying to do because that loaded the bases, but it definitely slipped."
As for how the slugger's stint in the minors is going? Getting hit by a pitch might be the high point. In four games, the 37-year-old has just one hit in ten plate appearances.
