The Pirates didn’t win last night, but they didn’t let the game become a disaster either and as much as that sounds like setting sights awfully low, it’s still a good sign that maybe things are leveling out for this team a little bit. Zach Duke goes to the mound tonight and he’s gotta be excited to not be facing the Brewers again. In three starts against Not the Brewers, Duke is 2-0 with a 2.37 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP (though admittedly shaky strikeout numbers). In two starts against the Brewers, he’s 0-2 with a 14.00 ERA and 2.67 WHIP. Hopefully, we get the good Duke tonight.
He’ll be without Garrett Jones behind him in the field, as Jones was hospitalized with some digestive issues on Friday. Hearing John Russell talk about it makes it sound not too serious, but it’ll keep him out of the lineup tonight nonetheless. John Russell is apparently practicing the, “Eh, what the hell, just put the replacement guy in the spot the other guy was going to hit because rearranging my whole lineup is too much work” theory tonight, because Ryan Church is playing right field and batting cleanup. The Dodgers are sending Rule 5 selection Carlos Monasterios to the mound for his first big league start tonight.

Charlie Morton may have put together a decent start last night, but that didn’t prevent him from being the game’s Cangelosi. That coupled with Andrew McCutchen and Ryan Doumit staying on fire and getting on the Clemente list means we had some serious point movement yesterday with Wizard of Woz and Nate both getting perfect 4s and four more of us (me, Carnegie Chip, dafletch, hisjazziness) putting up a 3-spot.
