A trade deadline prediction

A trade deadline prediction

The Twins will not make any moves before Tuesday’s deadline. Maybe a trade or two in August, but I don’t think they will do it in the month of July. Why? Here are a few reasons:

– Terry Ryan is one of the least active traders during the season. I don’t see why that would change this year.

– The most tradeable offensive player on the team is Denard Span, and there are many teams, most recently the Yankees, who have said that the asking price is way too high. Span doesn’t NEED to be traded, so the asking price wont come down.

– Josh WIllingham won’t be traded because he was just signed last year to a multi year deal. The Twins feel like they will be competetive soon with some pitching. It’s not much of a stretch.

– Speaking of pitchers, Francisco Liriano is the only healthy pitcher that might interest other teams, (or at least the only one rumored to interest other teams). Again, the asking price for Liriano, who has been inconsistent this season and through his career will be way too high. Ryan won’t just give in, because that’s not what he does, but TR will view him as good Liriano, not the bad Liriano that he has been all too often in his career. His last start didn’t help with the trade value either.

Yep, I don’t foresee the Twins making a big deadline move. If anyone gets traded, I bet it would be someone nobody is talking about, like Jamey Carroll or Jared Burton, but I’m not even sure that will happen.
