Joby Gaytan is the epitome of humility. In my travels through the wonderfully terrifying world of combative sports journalism, Gaytan was one of the first individuals I truly connected with. If you know Gaytan then you know what I’m talking about. You would be hard-pressed to find a more passionate and knowledgeable person in the world of amateur boxing. Gaytan’s passion for the sport of boxing led him to open up his own gym, Knuckle Up Boxing Club [KUBC], in the far north Dallas suburb of Princeton.
Where others would balk at the prospect of opening their own boxing gym – in a very non-boxing hotbed – Gaytan managed to field a team of highly respected young boxers. From its base in Gaytan’s home garage, to their very own building Knuckle Up Boxing Club illustrates the hope that good things happen to good people.
Currently, Gaytan and his gym are selling Knuckle Up Boxing Club t-shirts and various other apperal emblazoned with their awesome logo on the front and scripture on the back.
The scripture, taken from Psalm 144:1, is one of the more fight conscious in the Good Book and reads as follows:
Blessed be the Lord, my rock,
Who trains my hands for war,
And my fingers for battle.
Pretty friggin’ sweet. I have a KUBC tee and without a doubt it’s as baller as they come. So, do yourself and the great kids at KUBC a favor and purchase a tee or hoodie. Order and pricing inquiries can be directed to Joby Gaytan at knuckleupboxing @ sbcglobal.net.
