Some of the AAC Football Fever staff members have been hand selected to give their weekly picks for each American Athletic Conference game.
Blake Lovell, Mitch Wilcox, Jay Saunders, John Nestor, Zach Rastall, Al Burke, and Michael Compton will test their knowledge by contesting me each and every week for bragging rights (and maybe a gratifying pat on the back) at the end of the season.
It wasn’t a strong week for the AAC.
SMU’s offense continued to sputter as it was destroyed by North Texas (leading to June Jones abrupt resignation?), Tulsa couldn’t touch Oklahoma, Tulane couldn’t come out on top in its first true home game since 1974, and ECU fell victim to inconsistency in the second half in a loss to South Carolina. UConn won, but it sure didn’t feel like it—the Huskies were taken to the wire by Stony Brook in an underwhelming 19-16 finish.
Temple, USF, and Memphis fought valiantly in close losses to Navy, Maryland, and UCLA, but couldn’t compensate for the entire conference’s forgettable weekend, as the AAC finished 2-7 overall in Week 2.
If our experts’ thoughts are any indication, it doesn’t look like this week will get much better:
