Aaron Craft: “Looking Forward to the Opportunity”

Las Vegas Summer League standout, Aaron Craft, is in unfamiliar territory in his new role with the Golden State Warriors. After spending 4 years at The Ohio State University as perhaps the teams top player, Craft went undrafted in the 2014 NBA Draft. He did, however, see substantial minutes with the Philidelphia 76ers as well as the Warriors during the Orlando and Las Vegas Summer Leagues, respectively .

His standout performance this summer impressed new head coach Steve Kerr, and also earned him a training camp invite. Bay Area News Group writer, Diamond Leung, wrote about what Kerr truly thinks about the Ohio State alum.

“We love Aaron’s competitiveness and his defense and his energy and his intelligence,” Kerr said, “He sort of embodies what we want to be and what we’re becoming as a franchise.

“Whether he’s good enough or not, we’ll see, but we like the idea of bringing him to camp and possibly sending him to Santa Cruz to work on his game. But he impressed us in summer league, and he earned a spot in camp for sure.”

While broadcasting for TNT in January, Kerr wrote on his twitter page with some high praise for Craft. The tweet read “What position does Aaron Craft play, you ask? ‘Winner.’

During the Warriors 2014 Media Day (#TweediaDay), Craft spoke with Laurence Scott and Tim Roye and talked about his performance in summer league and what he hopes to bring to the Warriors.

“Just continuing to build off what we did this summer. I think that’s one of the reasons I have this opportunity here, “Craft said, “It’s been great to be here this last month, just really getting to know the guys, getting to know the coaching staff. Just really looking forward to the opportunity”

During his time in Las Vegas this summer with the Warriors, Craft averaged 7.4 points as well as 2.6 steals per game, which was 4th among all Vegas players. Craft will have his work cut out for him if he wants to earn a spot on this talented roster. For all summer league players who earned a camp invite, there may only be one spot up for grabs when it comes time for the final roster cuts.
