On Sunday morning, it was announced by Aaron Murray‘s mother, Lauren Murray on Facebook that her son will be having surgery this upcoming Tuesday to repair a torn ACL he suffered on Saturday in a 59-13 win over Kentucky.
The torn ACL will mean the end of his historic career at Georgia in which he’ll finish as the South Eastern Conference’s all time leading passer in passing yards and touchdowns with 13,166 and 121 respectively. His SEC career will be missing one thing though, an SEC championship.
Five yards was how short Murray came up of winning one just last season when Georgia played the Alabama Crimson Tide in Atlanta where Alabama’s last stand secured their victory and Alabama would go onto win their second straight National Championship and their third in four years.
Murray, last season could have entered the draft and been a first or second round draft pick but decided to return to Georgia for one more shot at it all. Though since the first game of the season, Georgia has been plagued with injuries. It was a bad omen for the Bulldogs when wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell tore his ACL celebrating a 75 yard touchdown by Todd Gurley.
Georgia, would then be up and down the rest of the season with the lowest point coming in back-to-back losses to Missouri and Vanderbilt. Georgia (7-4) will take be at Georgia Tech next weekend to finish their rather disappointing season.
Murray, who before the injury was projected to be drafted in the second or third round may now become a 5th-7th round draft pick. Another, prospect who may have lost himself alot of money by staying in college, a good example of a quarterback before him is Philadelphia‘s own Matt Barkley.
Murray on twitter left a message for all his fans, thanking them for the prayers.
Thank you for all the prayers over the past few hours. Gonna come back stronger than ever! Dawg for life. Truly love you all #GoDawgs
