Abe Asher’s Week Four College Football Picks

avs

Hi there – it’s week four of the college football season, and things are heating up. I went a 10-4 in the picks last week that looks a lot better than it was, bringing my season tally up to 28-10. Here are the picks.

Auburn 37, Kansas State 31 – True or false: Everyone at Kansas State is still scared of Fran Martin three to four years later.

Virginia Tech 27, Georgia Tech 20 – So far the most underrated thing about this college football season has been the ACC Not Game of the Week shown locally on ROOT Sports at 9:00 AM where Georgia Tech struggles mightily to beat FCS opponents in games that come down to the final play.

Alabama 38, Florida 10 – Will Muschamp looks more and more like Eeyore on the sideline every week.

Texas A&M 47, SMU 17 – Successful SMU coach June Jones abruptly resigned a few weeks ago. I’ll just leave that there and let you make of it what you will.

BYU 34, Virginia 24 – Apparently BYU has the best chance of any D1 school to go undefeated this year. I sense some year one playoff drama coming down the road.

Michigan 31, Utah 20 – Utah is quickly becoming the first school to ever miss the hell out of the Mountain West.

LSU 31, Mississippi State 14 – This probably won’t a good game next year, when Dan Mullen leaves State to coach the Gators, so enjoy it while it lasts.

Oklahoma 51, West Virginia 23 – Speaking of things that won’t be around anymore, Gus Johnson has stepped down as FOX’s lead soccer announcer. Fair play to Gus – he needed more time and lower profile games to be successful with soccer, now he’ll have to settle for being really good at all his other high-profile gigs.

South Carolina 35, Vanderbilt 10 – The world needs more people like Steve Spurrier – even his little tick in the fourth quarter of close games is endearing.

Florida State 34, Clemson 30 – And we thought Johnny Manziel was fun…

Nebraska 44, Miami 31 – Seriously though, Jameis Winston is an idiot but why should he be suspended at all for shouting an obscenity – in humor – on campus? It doesn’t make the university look good, but what he did was just stupid, not illegal.

Oregon State 35, San Diego State 21 – What makes this even more shocking is that FSU decided to suspend him for a half of the Clemson game for this offense. Maybe college football really is turning a moral corner!

Oregon 54, Washington State 27 – Might there be a little payback for last year’s 89-pass-attempt brouhaha? Nick Aliotti may be gone from Oregon, but let’s hope his spirit is not.
