The schedule for the 2014 ACC Tournament has been released and Florida State will be the second overall seed and the top-seed in Pool B. All games for the tournament will take place in Greensboro, North Carolina. The conference tournament will get underway on Tuesday, but the Seminoles will not be in action until Wednesday night at 7:00 P.M. eastern time.
FSU will open the tournament against the winner of the 7/10 match-up as North Carolina takes on N.C. State. The Seminoles went a combined 5-1 against the Tar Heels and Wolfpack this season.
After a day off on Thursday, Florida State will get started early on Friday. FSU will take on a Maryland squad that will be playing in its final ACC Tournament ever. The Terrapins earned the sixth overall seed in the conference tournament. Florida State took two of three from Maryland when the teams opened up ACC play against one another in Tallahassee back in early March.
At 7:00 on Saturday night, Florida State will take on third-seeded Virginia in what may be the most anticipated match-up of the conference tournament. The Cavaliers got the better of the Seminoles in Tallahassee, taking two of three when the teams met at Dick Howser Stadium at the end of April. Virginia was one of just two teams to win an ACC series against Florida State this season.
Should the Seminoles emerge from Pool B, they’ll play in the ACC Championship on Sunday at 1:00 P.M. against the winner of Pool A. In Pool A is top-seed Miami, Duke, Clemson, Wake Forest and Georgia Tech. The Blue Devils and Tigers will meet in the 4/5 match-up on Wednesday morning while the winner of Tuesday’s contest between eighth-seeded Wake Forest and 9-seed Georgia Tech will take on Miami on Wednesday afternoon.
For Florida State, the ACC Tournament will give the Seminoles the opportunity to head into the NCAA Tournament with momentum of their side. FSU has lost its last seven games in the conference tournament and has not claimed an ACC championship since 2010.
