Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe thinks the Red Sox might go after first baseman Adrian Gonzalez of the San Diego Padres and move Youk back to third. This would give Tito the option of DHing Lowell or Ortiz. He also thinks the Red Sox will look hard at J.D. Drew’s brother Stephen Drew for the shortstop position. Here’s a look at some numbers for each from this past season:
Adrian Gonzalez
BA | HR | RBI | OBP | SLG |
.277 | 40 | 99 | .407 | .551 |
Stephen Drew
BA | HR | RBI | OBP | SLG |
.261 | 12 | 65 | .320 | .428 |
Both players would be nice to have on the team and Gonzalez would give the team a much needed offensively. If the Red Sox do land Gonzalez they would have to keep Victor Martinez behind the plate. Mike Lowell and David Ortiz are in the last year of their contracts so this might be a nice way of transitioning for the future.
