Taking Stock: Celtics – Grizzlies

Taking stock

After every game, we'll take stock of how each individual performance affects the player's overall value.

Starters

Green arrow

Rajon Rondo:  I know we want guys to be robots and step right back into playing without missing a beat, but that's not how it works.  Doc said it best last night… it's his second game playing after missing time due to an injury that hasn't even fully healed yet.  And he hasn't practiced.  I think a 14 assist game is a nice second game.

Green arrow

Paul Pierce:  10 more to pass Larry Bird and become the C's second all time leading scorer.  21, 6 and 6 = doing it all (again).  His value to this team is insane.

Green arrow

Kevin Garnett:  OMG HE KEEPS SHOOTING THREES!!!!.  KG's shooting overall has been great.  His season FG% is just over 49%, but in his last 5 games he's shooting 55.8%.  And his passing has been just spectacular.

Green arrow

Jermaine O'Neal:  Nice work on the boards, plus two more blocks and a charge.  He did his job well.

Sideways_double_arrowRay Allen:  Everyone's entitled to an off night.  He hit them when it mattered, though.

Bench

Green arrow

Chris Wilcox: A perfect game for Chris… 12 points on a perfect 5-5 from the field and 2-2 from the line.  Add 5 rebounds all in just 12 minutes of play and we've got a hell of a game out of him.

Sideways_double_arrow

Mickael Pietrus:  He hit a couple of threes, but otherwise did nothing much to stand out.

Green arrow

JaJuan Johnson: A nice contribution in 22 minutes.  Very impressed with the mid-range jumper.  He took his shots with confidence.

Sideways_double_arrowAvery Bradley: We didn't see much out of Bradley yesterday, although that one play to find Johnson underneath for a dunk was nice.  As Bradley continues to develop, I'll hapilly take the "he didn't hurt us out there" performance.

Sideways_double_arrow Greg Stiemsma, E'Twaun Moore, Sasha Pavlovic: JJ has passed Stiemer on the depth chart.  Not that it will matter much.  But Stiemsma has a lot of work to do.  E'Twaun's run will be spotty.

Coaching

Green arrow

Doc Rivers:  I like that he stuck with JJ for a while, and the he always had him in there with at least one starter to take the pressure off of him.

OVERALL

Green arrow

Another win, their 8th of 9.  They're now the 7th seed but just 3.5 away from the 3rd seed.  They have some challenges coming up, but for now, I'll appreciate what they've done to return to some kind of form.
