Again, Kenny Powers is Not John Rocker

-5

It’s been nearly three years since Kenny Powers threw his last pitch, but, still, here we are, again…talking about the fictional pitcher.

In advance of his new HBO series, “Vice Principals” creator Jody Hill was asked about his, umm, previous show “Eastbound and Down”.

Makes sense, right?

Fortunately, Hill was able to put to rest something a ton of baseball fans believe to be true, but for the last time…John Rocker was not the inspiration for Powers.

“I didn’t even know who (Rocker) was before the show came out. I don’t know much about sports, so we just kind of made up that character,” Hill said. “We didn’t really have to base it on anybody. I’m sure they all think it’s based on them.”

One player who thinks Kenny Powers is based on him…Jose Canseco. Natch.

No word as to whether or not Hill and Co. ever reached out to the 1988 American League MVP. Oh, and you can see “Vice Principals” on HBO starting Sunday.
