The NFL has suspended Titans fullback Ahmard Hall for four games, John Glennon reports, for violating the league policy on performance enhancing substances. I’m usually not surprised when young players do knuckleheaded things, but this time it’s the veteran Hall who played the knucklehead. Hall blamed a positive test on a stimulant he took to stay awake during a long drive in February.
Hall’s suspension will be for the first four games of the season. To replace Hall, at least for the time being, the Titans have traded a future undisclosed draft pick to the Packers for Quinn Johnson, whom Mike Reinfeldt described as a “traditional, downhill, blocking fullback.” Johnson has started four times in 20 games for Green Bay and caught 3 passes for 26 yards last year.
I wrote several times in the extended offseason that fullback was a position in need of an upgrade. If the 263-pound Johnson proves to be an upgrade, it makes sense to release Hall after he serves his suspension. There’s no need for the Titans to carry two fullbacks on the roster.
