Do the Celtics still have interest in Shaq?
… but team president Danny Ainge said he's still looking to make a couple more additions, particularly a shooter and a big man.
Out west trying to cobble together a vacation around a constant
stream of phone calls, Ainge said, "We still have to finish it up. We’re
still looking at a couple more players."The big man that the rumor mill has constantly connected to the
Celtics in recent weeks is Shaquille O'Neal, and even though Ainge
wouldn't directly address the team's interest in the 38-year old center,
Ainge said there have been talks."I’m not going to comment on that," Ainge said. "But we’ve had some discussions."
Globe – Ainge talks remaining roster moves
Translation: Yes. As usual, money will be the deciding factor.
ESPN's Andy Katz just published an interview with Doc Rivers. Doc talks mostly about his decision to return, but my favorite quote relates to the Heat:
"They're good, they're really good," Rivers said. "I don't know if
they're the team to beat. The Lakers are the team to beat. We're the
Eastern Conference champs. They're going to have a bull's-eye on them
every game but so will we, so will the Lakers and so will Orlando. The
East will be fun."Even if more of the pressure nationally will be directed at the Heat, Rivers said the Celtics will create their own pressure.
"We don't look at the pressure, we look at the chase," Rivers
said. "It should be hard. We don't mind that. Listen, they've [the Heat] already had a parade. So we'll see."
I've stated this before, there is only one legitimate option for the NBA season opener and its the Heat vs the Celtics at the Garden.
