Today, the Washington State University Athletic Department confirmed that Aire Justin’s career is over after he tested positive earlier this year for a performance enhancing substance. I reported this story first a few weeks ago after an inside source on the football team told me that Justin had indeed failed a drug test during Spring Ball. It created waves throughout Cougar nation, with some questioning this blog’s credibilty and my very own journalistic ethics.
The loss of Justin will undoubtedly hurt WSU’s depth at cornerback. Numerous spectators who watched the Cougars scrimmage the past few weeks said the senior-to-be was perhaps our best player at the position.
He will be remembered in many circles for his standout game last year in WSU’s shocking 31-14 win against Oregon State. The corner nabbed two interceptions and made a number of stellar plays on that fateful November day.
The NCAA officially denied his appeal today in a development that didn’t surprise anyone knowledgable about his predicament. With the loss of Justin, it appears that Damante Horton, Daniel Simmons and Nolan Washington will battle it out for playing time this fall.
That’s all I’ve got for you today, as I’m off to go see former WSU running back Kevin McCall and Ludacris perform at Springfest here on the Palouse!
Go Cougs!
