AJ Pierzynski Strikes Again!

Last night started a 3 game series with their World Series foes the St. Louis Cardinals last night.  If the Red Sox were not circling the drain there would have been a lot of hype about this series.  The most attention was to the two former Red Sox players who are now with the Cardinals, John Lackey and AJ Pierzynski.  Both players seemed pretty happy to be out of a Sox uniform and have new life in a Cardinals one.  Lackey won’t face the Sox in this series, but AJ Pierzynski already put a stamp on the series in the game last night.

Rubby De La Rosa took the mound for the Sox and pitched himself a nice game.  He was able to keep the Cards off the scoreboard until the 4th inning when they were able to scrap a single run.  Holliday hit a double and then Adams got him home when he hit an RBI single.  Sox 0-1.  The Sox were able to tie the game in the top of the 5th when Vazquez hit an RBI sac fly to score Nava from 3rd.  Sox 1-1.  The Sox were then able to take the lead in the 7th inning when the Cardinals intentionally walked Christian Vazquez to load the bases with one out.  Will Middlebrooks came to the plate and hit an RBI grounder to the pitcher that scored Cespedes from 3rd.  Sox 2-1.  Rubby De La Rosa was done after 6 innings and if everything stayed the same he would have been in line for the win.  De La Rosa’s pitching line for the night was 94 pitches, 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 3 BB and 3 Ks.

Tommy Layne took the mound in the 7th inning and he wasn’t able to keep the lead for the Sox in his inning of work.  Layne walked Robsinson and he would end up coming around to score on an RBI single he gave up to Wong.  Sox 2-2.  The Cardinals wouldn’t end up taking the lead until the 8th inning when Junichi Tazawa took the mound.  Taz gave up a single to former Sox AJ Pierzynski and then he came home as the go ahead run when Jay hit an RBI bloop single to the outfield.  When Pierzynski was coming down the line from 3rd it looked as if he gestured and was saying something into the Sox dugout.  If that isn’t the most AJ Pierzynski thing, I don’t know what is.  The Red Sox were now down 2-3 and unfortunately weren’t able to rally against the Cards closer Trevor Rosenthal.
