AL East Standings 8/30/13

4

It's Friday which means it is time to check in on how the Sox are fairing in the standings:

The Red Sox are once again sitting on top of the AL East.  They had a productive week winning both a series in LA against the Dodgers and winning a series against the Orioles once they got back home.  The Dodgers have been a red hot team since the break, so taking that series was huge.  The Orioles while they are sitting in 3rd place in the standings, they have been a team that has given the Sox fits the past few seasons.  The Sox have won some games and have also been helped by the Rays losing some games they probably could have and should have won.  The Sox can't rely on the Rays helping them out down the stretch, so if they want to stay on top of the east they are gonna need to take care of their own games.

In the next week the Sox have series against both the White Sox and Tigers at home and then head on to the Bronx  to play the Yankees.   The Sox miss Chris Sale again when facing off the White Sox and that is always a good thing.  I'll be honest, the Tigers offense and pitching terrifies me.  I am hopefully that the Sox can keep pace this week and of the course the key to that is the health of their pitching and hopefully a resurgence of David Ortiz at the plate.  All in all the Red Sox have spent almost all of this season in first place and I am crossing my fingers and toes that they are able to stay that way down the stretch.  I have a feeling it is gonna be a fight to the finish though.
