This will be the last post of the AL East standing for the 2013 MLB season.
The Red Sox were able to clinch the AL East last Friday and get that lovely y up there next to their name. The division belongs to the Red Sox and only the Red Sox. Now the only thing the Sox are still playing for is to have the best record in the AL so that they will have home field advantage in all of the playoffs and to face the wild card team.
The Tigers record is 93-66 and so the Sox have 3 games on them in the AL record race. The Athletics are a little closer with a record of 94-65. In order for the Sox to have the best record in the AL they have a magic number of 2. In the remaining 3 games with Baltimore the Sox either need to win 2 games or the A's need to lose 2 against the Mariners or any combination in between. As I am writing this the Sox are winning against the Orioles, so it looks like they are inching closer. It is interesting to see how much the Sox are playing to win the AL record as they are closing out the season. It would be a great thing to be able to play the wild card team, especially since the wild care race looks like it is going to go down to the wire. The Rays, Indians and Rangers are all scraping and clawing just to get the chance to play the one game wild card game.
Let's Go Red Sox! Clap Clap ClapClapClap!
