Michigan looked like they showed up ready to play against the defending National Champions. Alabama got the ball first but went three and out and it looked like Michigan would put up a fight. Michigan and Denard Robinson got a first down on their first series but then they gave the ball back to Alabama and it was all downhill from there.
On their first scoring drive, the Tide used a combination of Eddie Lacy and true frosh TJ Yeldon running the football and AJ McCarron hooking up with Kenny Bell to move them down the field. The Tide finished it off with a nice short yardage TD pass to their TE Michael Williams. Michigan would gain just 18 more yards during the first quarter and Alabama would score two more touchdowns to take a 21-0 lead at the end of the first stanza and at that point it was all but over.
The Alabama defense was simply too much for Denard Robinson and the Wolverines. The Wolverines never got going on the ground and Robinson had trouble through the air as he threw two inteceptions and had more incompletions than completions. Alabama had to replace a bunch of defensive starters that went to the NFL, so the prevailing thought coming into the game was that this was the right time for Michigan to catch Alabama. It looks like Bama is simply reloading instead of having to rebuild as they didn’t have any problem with the Wolverines attack.
Michigan was held to just 3 of 12 on third downs and just 68 yards rushing. With the impressive victory over the Wolverines, the Tide have once again made themselves the team to beat in the SEC.
