>Rivals.com released their initial Rivals 100 rankings for the 2011 Class today, and three players who have given verbal commitments to Alabama were ranked.
Linebacker Brent Calloway (AL) was the highest rated, clocking in at #9 overall as a 5* prospect. Next up was safety HaSean Clinton-Dix (FL) who came in at #28 overall. And finally, wide receiver Danny Woodson (AL) snuck in at #96.
Conspicuous by his absence was wide receiver Marvin Shinn (AL). While Danny Woodson is a great prospect in his own right, he plays in the same metropolitan area as Shinn, and I’ve yet to hear anyone who has watched them both closely so much as suggest Woodson was better than Shinn. So I’m somewhat curious as to how these national recruiting guys came to favor Woodson so much.
Alabama is also considered a strong contender or outright leader for several other Rivals 100 prospects, including: OT Cyrus Kouandjio (#9), RB Isaiah Crowell (#17), RB Demetrius Hart (#34), and DT Gabriel Wright (#92), among others.
Kouandjio is currently playing the field, but his brother, Arie, signed with Alabama this past February, which would seem to give Alabama an edge. Likewise, Gabe Wright is enjoying the recruiting process, but sources have indicated that he’ll go where Crowell goes, and Crowell is considered a heavy Bama lean by those in the know. It has also been widely reported that Demetrius Hart would like to play college ball with high school teammate Clinton-Dix.
Rivals.com will release their next 150 ranked prospects to complete the Rivals 250 tomorow.
