Kiko Alonso has gotten off to such a good start in his NFL career that he’s getting early mention as a candidate for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. After three games, the former Duck inside linebacker leads the 1-2 Bills in tackles (27), interceptions (2) , and fumble recoveries. He has the team’s only forced fumble and he’s second in sacks.

Veteran Bills linebacker Manny Lawson told Chris Brown of buffalobills.com, “He’s not selfish. He really wants to help this team and he really wants to contribute. The plays that he’s not making, he’s focusing hard on that. He is his biggest critic. That’s what any player should be. We should be our own worst critic and being that he wants to go out there and improve on the plays that he’s not making it’s going to help us in the long run.”

Another player getting early mention as the league’s top rookie is also a former Duck, Bears offensive lineman Kyle Long.
