ALS Ice Bucket Challenge: Stephen Curry And USABMNT, Festus Ezeli Accept (Photo: @wardell30 Instagram account)
Although the offseason is supposed to be a time for players and coaches to rest up and refuel for the next season, a couple Golden State Warriors players have been extremely busy this summer. Aside from playing in celebrity golf tournaments and attending a former teammates wedding Stephen Curry as well as Klay Thompson have been spending a majority of their time training with the USA Basketball Men’s National Team (#USABMNT).
The team will head to Spain at the end of the month for the 2014 FIBA World Cup looking to bring home gold, which will be no easy task after the team has lost a lot of talent to injuries or player withdraws.
Amid all of the hard work to make sure our country is well represented, it is only right that the players have some time to unwind and take their mind off of the intense competition for a brief period. On Friday, Curry posted a video on his Instagram account which showed him and a few teammates taking part in the #ALSIceBucketChallenge which is practically taking over everyone’s social media news feeds.
If you haven’t seen any of these videos, it basically involves people dumping freezing water on their own head in order to raise awareness for ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Curry spoke in the video and, in a second post, nominated Oprah Winfrey, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, as well as President Barack Obama to participate in the challenge next (no word on if there’s been a reply from either of the named celebrities).
Along with half the squad, Thompson was conspicuously absent from the ice shower. Whether that was by choice or not, we may never know. However, LetsGoWarriors will be attending Thursday’s Team USA practice in New York City, and we will try our best to find out.
In the meantime, Festus Ezeli and Warriors assistant coach Alvin Genry got into the action as well, challenging Harrison Barnes, David Lee, and all of #DubNation.
