152-lb Catchweight Bout: Floyd Mayweather (44-0) vs. Saul Alvarez (42-0-1)

-Too quick.  Too damned quick.  I know Vegas has high expectations for Canelo, but every time I get sucked into thinking that this is the time Floyd finally falters I get cruelly let down.  I think Canelo can have some success early, but Floyd will just keep cruising and making Alvarez look foolish.  Mayweather via UD.

WBC Junior Welterweight Championship: Danny Garcia (c) (26-0) vs. Lucas Matthysse (34-2)

-As my good chum and colleague Nolan Howell says about Garcia, “What the hell should I be impressed with?”.  There is something to be said for that.  The win over Khan is nice, even though we now know that his chin is a little dicey.  But what the hell do two wins over the husk of used to be Erik Morales mean to me?  That makes him the best 140-lber in the world?  I don’t think so.  Matthysse doesn’t ahve the big names on his win sheet, but his opponents have mostly been tough, tough customers.  Of his last four wins, three of his opponents have never been knocked out and the fourth had only been TKO’d once.  Matthysse is a monster right now and Garcia is in for a culture shock.  Matthysse via R5 KO.

IBF Junior Middleweight Championship Bout: Ishe Smith (c) (25-5) vs. Carlos Molina (21-5-2)

-Pretty even matchup in here that’s definitely going the distance.  Other than a strange DQ loss to James Kirkland, Molina hasn’t tasted defeat since 2007.  Smith has had a more up-and-down career, but his title win over K9 Bundrage is a great win.  Tight matchup.  Smith via SD.

Welterweight Bout: Ashley Theophane (33-5) vs. Pablo Cesar Cano (26-3-1)

-Cano is only 23 and has already tasted a bit of world championship gold as the WBA interim champion.  His last two fights have seen him lose two close decisions to Paulie and Mosley.  No, losing to Mosley in 2013 isn’t exactly, well, good, but it’s still early in his career and Theophane hasn’t faced a boxer close to Cano or anyone Cano has seen.  Cano via R6 TKO.
