The (7-16) New Orleans Pelicans lost to the (5-18) Philadelphia 76ers at home on Thursday night, 99-88, and that’s about as close as a team can get to hitting rock bottom.
As such, things already aren’t looking too good for Alvin Gentry, who’s in his first year as head coach. The Pelicans have a young team with a lot of talent on the roster, and after a disappointing 2015-16 season, they seem to have somehow regressed since then, if that’s even possible.
With that said, it’s no wonder why Gentry is already getting questions from the media about the team’s performance and how it relates to his job status, even this early in the season.
However, Gentry is a veteran, and he’s not one to stand idle after being asked a question that he doesn’t like. So when he was asked about his job status by one particular reporter after Thursday night’s loss, he had this to say in response:
“I really don’t give a [expletive] about my job status,” Gentry said. “I’m gonna work hard, and I’m gonna coach, until the day they tell me I’m not the coach here anymore. It doesn’t matter, I don’t ever worry about that. That is not anything that I spend five seconds worrying about.”

If the Pelicans don’t turn things around and start showing some signs of improvement, Gentry will likely be tasked with answering more questions similar to this one in the near future.
