Amazing

Hello Followers.

Well, the tonight the Cougs won a 69-66 thriller in Overtime against a Northwestern team that NO ONE in their right mind would ever want to face in a post-season tournament.

And now, we’re headed to New York.

Lots of angles and headlines here, but the biggest was that after a season of dissapointment, this one ended with the Cougs doing what P-Town noted they couldn’t do a few weeks ago:

THEY WON UGLY.

And while there were several typical head scratching moments in this one (Casto from three, Motum from Three early in the shotclock late), the best indicator of how we won was the final point tally for Northwestern in OT:

Northwestern  SCORED TWO POINTS in the extra period..

And really, that was the story.  Northwestern limited the number of possessions in this one and did a fantastic job of taking away our baseline.

But, faced with a nightmare match-up, we dug in when we needed to and got the job done on the defensive end.  Bravo!

Now, for those who missed the game:

It appeared that the game was over in regulation.  After a Casto goal tend allowed the game to be tied at 64, Bone called time out with 4.7 seconds left.  After failing to get the ball into Klay, Reggie brillaintly drove the length of the court and hit a cutting Abe Lodwick who was fouled with .2 seconds left.

Tragically, Abe wanted it too much and missed both free throws to force overtime.

In the extra frame, the Cougs drew first blood when Klay hit an 8 foot jumper to make it 66-64.

Then, Northwestern had FIVE STINKING offensive rebounds off missed shots–three of which were LATE in the shotclock–which cut the overtime in half (2:20 left).

Klay then missed a three with 1:58 left and Northwestern Responded with a lay-up to tie it up at 66.

With 1:20 left, Klay drew a foul late in the shot clock and made both free throws to put us up 68-66.

Following a great defensive stand by the Cougs, Northwestern turned the ball over with 39.4 left in OT.

Then, after Klay got the ball over midcourt, we called a timeout.  Followng the time out, Reggie promptly turned the ball over in the backcourt–which of course, Northwestern then turned right back over with 20 seconds left in OT.

After Reggie made one of two free throws, we led 69-66.  Northwestern had two different three point shots–including one at the buzzer–to try to tie it, but both were off the mark.

And so we head to New York.

Get some rest Cougies, cuz we’re headed to the City that Never Sleeps.

Congrats on a successful season, Cougars.

There was even a slight indication by Klay at the end that he’s coming back.
