It wasn’t exactly the triumphant return to the ring that he had envisioned and Friday night Garland’s Americo Santos was beaten handily in his return to boxing.
Well, we knew that Santos first fight back in nearly three years would be a tough one. After all, he was battling for a title against Jesus Pabon who just happened to be the “house fighter.” But, give credit to Pabon for his ability to capitalize on Santos’ ring rust and constantly exposed chin; Pabon dropped Santos twice with straight left hands.
It wasn’t as if Santos was not competitive, he had his moments, but in the end Pabon was able to exploit the defensive liabilities of Santos in rout to capturing the vacant WBC Latino junior welterweight title.
