An ‘expanded audience’

Major League Baseball and FOX’s plan to get more eyeballs on a game between two small market teams potentially in contention has hilariously backfired again today, as the Pirates and Reds will now only be able to be watched by people between Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, and anyone outside of those two markets (like myself) will be blacked out of the game entirely.

It’ll be a real shame, then, if today’s game is anything like last night’s ridiculous score-a-thon that saw the Pirates constantly fighting back and never being able to get clear of the Reds while the usually-reliable bullpen melted down spectacularly. The Bucs send Charlie Morton out today and Morton’s been pretty fantastic against the Reds this year. He’s allowed just one earned run in three starts (23 innings), including two complete games and one shutout. He goes up against Dontrelle Willis, who’s been surprisingly solid with the Reds this year, though he’s still looking for his first win and he’s coming off of a terrible start against the Padres, who chased him after just 2 2/3 innings last Sunday.

First pitch today is at 4:10. If you happen to live in the narrow viewing area allowed to see the game.
