It’s hard to believe that the Oregon State Beaver football team is already nine games into the season. Competing in the Pac-12 conference, the Beavers face some tough opponents all season, including California, Stanford, and of course, the Oregon Ducks. With just three games left in the regular season, the Beavers look to close out strong.
Entering his fourteenth year as head coach, Mike Riley is on point to become one of the top coaches in OSU football history as he continues to edge closer to the OSU school record for most victories. Quarterback Sean Mannion is in his senior year looking healthy, strong, and fueled by some impressive past accomplishments during his time as a Beaver.
Though a 4-5 (1-5 conference) record may not be what many hoped for, the Beaver players have posted impressive numbers thus far. Mannion now holds the Pac-12 Conference career passing yardage record with 12,873 completed yards in his career. Mannion also sits in the ninth position on the Pac-12 list of completed touchdown passes.
Senior linebacker Michael Doctor has been one to watch all season as well. Out for most of 2013 due to injury, Doctor leads the team with 185 career tackles and was announced as a candidate to watch for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, though he was not chosen as a semi-finalist.
Senior Connor Hamlett is recognized as one of the top tight ends in Beaver history with over 300 total receiving yards this season. Coming off an injury last season, fans and coaches are excited to see Hamlett back on the field to finish strong as a Beaver. There is no doubt that we will see impressive performances from Hamlett for the remainder of the season.
The Beavers are looking to bounce back from a 39-32 loss to Washington State this past weekend. OSU came back late in the game to edge the Cougars 24-22 in the third quarter, but it wasn’t enough to hold the Washington team off.
Next up for the Beavers, the Sun Devils. ASU visits the recently renovated stadium in Corvallis this Saturday. The Sun Devils are one of the best teams in college football right now, posting an 8-1 record. This will be the third home game in a row for the Beavers. All eyes will be on Mannion, the new record holder for yardage in Pac-12, and the Beaver’s newly healthy defensive line.
Kickoff is at 7:45pm this Saturday and will be broadcast on ESPN. Go Beavers!
