It would appear Mr. Appel may not be happy about his No. 8 selection. He declined to do a conference call with Pittsburgh media.

If you, like me, have been watching the MLB Network for most of the night, you probably also noticed that Appel was one of the few high draft picks to not do an interview after being picked. Even Byron Buxton gave an interview with a, “Holy crap, I have to go to Minnesota?” look on his face, sitting next to his dad in a Braves’ cap, but Appel’s been MIA all night.
UPDATE: Appel released a statement through the Pirates that basically said that he was focusing on school and the end of his college baseball season before worrying about professional baseball. I get that the guy’s disappointed to fall from a potential #1 to #8 and he’s probably not super-thrilled to be a Pirate, but yeah, I do think he probably needs to do a little better than this even if he doesn’t really owe anyone anything.
