Regular readers know…. I'm madly in love with a huge fan of Rajon Rondo. The greased lightning speed… the almost-to-a-fault unselfishness…
And now… his ability to shoot the ball.
His 23 point night came on 8-10 shooting (Including 2-2 from 3!!) and 5 of 6 shooting from the line. Needless to say… it's not something the Orlando Magic expected. Hell… they couldn't even stop what they DID expect from Rondo… which is ball distribution and defense (6 assists, 4 steals, 1 turnover). Toss in 4 boards and Rajon is turning one of the Celtics perceived weaknesses into a major strength. Is it because the C's trusted him enough not to bring in a veteran point guard? He'd like to think so.
“I think that definitely gave me confidence,” said Rondo of the fact he doesn’t have a seasoned veteran as a backup. “Danny (Ainge, the team’s director of basketball operations) and Doc both have a lot of confidence in me, and other people in the organization do, as well, so I’ve just got to go out there and continue to learn as a young player.”
Doc's been in that situation before… when he was a young point guard in Atlanta
“I had veterans around me,” Rivers said. “I had Johnny Davis and Eddie Johnson. I think it benefited me having them around. First they were good guys, and they were great with advice, like, ‘What the (expletive) are you doing?’ It was good for me”
Sounds like me talking to Chuck every day.
