The consistently inconsistent Pirates are finally home after a long ten-game road trip. Only the Pirates can go 3-7 on a ten-gamer and have fans coming away feeling that maybe it wasn’t such an awful trip, but that’s kind of how I feel about it after they at least managed to break their losing streak, steal a series in Milwaukee, and not get swept by the Dodgers.
The problem that the Pirates are currently facing is that as far as I can tell, they haven’t played more than one or two isolated games of unequivocally good baseball. They’ve recently transitioned from terrifyingly awful baseball to good old fashioned uninspiring baseballl (more accurately known as PirateBall), but they’re not really close to playing well or even “solid.” Doing that wouldn’t assure them of a winning record or anything, but it would make them a heck of a lot more watchable.
First pitch tonight is at 7:05 with Ryan Dempster and Paul Maholm on the mound. Clemente/Cangelosi is after the jump.

Sunday’s Clementes were Garrett Jones and Andy LaRoche, while the Cangelosis were Jeff Karstens and Andrew McCutchen. Surprisingly, quite a few people had Karstens in the Clemente column, perhaps as a reflection of his solid season debut.
