Okay, I’ll cover the important stuff first and get to the fun talk afterwards. The Brewers beat the Astros Saturday night at Miller Park by a score of 6-4. Eric Gagne picked up his fourth win of the season while Salomon Torres came on and got save number 20 for the season.
The Brewers got off to an early 2-0 lead on Ryan Braun sacrifice flies in the first and third innings. Dave Bush struggled in the fourth inning giving up a two-run home run to Carlos Lee and a solo shot to Hunter Pence. Bush gave up one more run in the fifth and the Brewers trailed 4-2.
Ryan Braun struck again in the seventh inning when he smacked a two-run home run to tie the game up. It was Braun’s 27th home run of the season. Bill Hall and Jason Kendall each singled in runs in the eighth to give the Brewers a 6-4 lead.
Torres came in the ninth for the save, Miller Park went crazy and the Brewers were tied atop the NL Central with the Chicago Cubs. The Brewers have completely made up an 8.5 game deficit on the Cubs in six weeks and at worse will only be a game back of the Cubs when they come to Miller Park starting on Monday.
I have to say that as exciting and fun as last year was that it already pales in comparison to how things are going this year. This year feels entirely different, mainly due to the acquisition of CC Sabathia.
The Brewers go for the series win against the Astros on Sunday and will send Jeff Suppan to the mound. One more game until the biggest series in Milwaukee in 26 years.
