Andrew Bynum Thinks About Retiring

The Philadelphia 76ers acquired Andrew Bynum from the Lakers before last season. The 76ers gave up Andre Iguodala and Nikola Vucevic to get Bynum, so they gave up a pretty good package for him. Well, Bynum ended up sitting on the bench for the entire season. That deal ended up screwing the 76ers up badly. Well, in this past offseason, Bynum signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and he has been playing for them. Everything seems to be okay for Bynum now, right? Nope, wrong.

Just when you think he’s healthy, he goes and says this:

Retirement was a thought, it was a serious thought. It still is. It’s tough to enjoy the game because of how limited I am physically. I’m working through that. Every now and again I do (think about retirement) … It’s still career threatening. I’m a shell of myself on the court right now. I’m just struggling mentally.

The thing that catches my eye here is when he says “It’s tough to enjoy the game because of how limited I am physically.”, this is extremely alarming for Cavaliers fans. It’s tough for him to enjoy the game; games are supposed to be fun, and if you’re not having fun then you’re doing it all wrong. If you’re not having fun with something, then it’s hard to do well.

Since he is in pain still, the Cavs are being extra careful with him. They aren’t playing him in back-to-back games, and he is taking it easy in practice. But he still says he has sharp pains at times in his knees and is battling soreness after games. He’s lost significant weight and been contributing but isn’t satisfied with his situation.

At this point, I think that Andrew Bynum should just retire. He doesn’t trust his body at all, and he doesn’t think he will ever be able to play 100% again. It’s not even worth playing anymore.

As for right now, Bynum is still going to play, and he is scheduled to play tomorrow in Philadelphia. Philadelphia is where he was traded to before last season, and he missed the entire season with the 76ers. Bynum made some bad decisions off the court, which set his return date back, and that made Philadelphia fans angry. I think he is in for quite the boo on Friday night.
