How do the Indianapolis Colts explain giving up 20 sacks in five games?
Andrew Luck says don’t blame the offensive line, blame him.
“I’ve said this before: I don’t think the sacks are totals are necessarily indicative of how well our offensive line is playing,” the Colts quarterback told reporters on Wednesday, according to Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star. “A lot of those (sacks), you can blame me for holding on to the ball for too long.”
He might be right.
Per Pro Football Focus, Luck holds the ball, on average, longer than all but one other quarterback in the league. That said, he is making smarter decisions, throwing 10 touchdowns to only three interceptions through five games. But the offensive line deserves plenty of blame, as Luck has been under pressure on 40 percent of his dropbacks. Only two quarterbacks have been under more pressure than the Colts quarterback, according to PFF.
Luck and his offensive line play at Houston on Sunday night against a Texans defense that ranks seventh in the NFL with 13 sacks.
