The October 1, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes the end of Grant Green’s tenure in Anaheim, Sean Newcomb earning some top-prospect honors, and more…

The Story: Angels DFA Grant Green, add Jo-Jo Reyes to roster

MWAH Says: Green’s departure isn’t really much of a surprise. He hadn’t appeared in a single September game despite Johnny Giavotella being out for much of the month. When you can’t get playing time over Taylor Featherston or Ryan Jackson, the writing is probably on the wall. That the Angels would decide to make this move now, with a week to go in the season, to make room for a 30-year-old who hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since 2011, is pretty dang weird though. We wish Green the best of luck. We’ll always remember that one time he did that one thing.

The Story: Sean Newcomb named Cal League’s top prospect

MWAH Says: The big lefty had a fantastic season, and should find himself on just about every top 50 list heading into 2016. Right-hander Chris Ellis also made the Cal League’s best-of list, coming in at No. 9.

The Story: Trout deserves another MVP award

MWAH Says: Just how bad would the Angels be without Mike Trout? Pretty bad! Certainly not in the hunt for a playoff spot with four games to go. Can you say the same for Donaldson and the Blue Jays? Probably not! If that’s not MVP-worthy, what is?

The Story: Angels rookies dressed up as squirrels

MWAH Says: Rookie hazing that doesn’t involve disparaging women? What a novel concept!

The Story: How a three-way tie helps the Angels

MWAH Says: This was fun and relevant for … six hours? By losing to the A’s Wednesday, the Angels are now mathematically incapable of tying the Rangers for the division. There’s still a potential four-way tie with the Astros, Yankees, and Twins for the two wild card spots, but that’s not quite as exciting as a guaranteed playoff spot.

The Story: 90% of MLB fights involve players of different ethnicity

MWAH: A fascinating read from Jorge L. Ortiz about the culture war bubbling to the surface in baseball. The Angels’ one real dust-up this season sort of fits this motif, with the Dominican Yordano Ventura chirping at Mike Trout, though it was something of a role reversal as Ventura seemed to play the part of unwritten-rule police. Just what that unwritten rule was is still something of a mystery.
