Zach Stewart made his Red Sox debut last night and it is an understatement to say it did not go as planned. Stewart gave up 9 runs in his debut and only lasted 3 innings. The Sox were able to get a few runs off CJ Wilson, but nearly enough to even put a dent in the hole Stewart put them in.
Zach Stewart ended up giving up 4 runs before he was able to record an out. Stewart gave up a single to Trout, an RBI double to Hunter, an RBI single to Pujols and then a HR to Morales. Sox 0-4. Gulp. In the top of the 2nd, the Sox scored one run when Podsednik hit a sac fly to score Gomez. Sox 1-4. However, Stewart gave that run right back in the bottom of the 2nd when with a Hunter RBI single. Sox 1-5. In the 3rd, Stewart went from bad to worse. Stewart gave up an RBI double to Callaspo, an RBI double to Aybar and then a 2 run HR to Iannetta. Sox 1-9. Ugh. That was it for Stewart…thankfully. The line for Stewart was 72 pitches, 3 IP, 10 H, 9 R, 0 BB and 2 Ks.
Junichi Tazawa was in the game in the 4th inning in hopes of stopping the bleeding. Tazawa pitched a scoreless 4th which is the first time the Angels hadn’t put some numbers up on the scoreboard in an inning. The Sox scored their final two runs in the 5th inning. Ellsbury stole second and Scott Podsednik scored because of a throwing error by Iannetta. Pedey hit an RBI single to score Ellsbury. Sox 3-9. In the bottom of the 5th, Tazawa allowed one more run to score when Callapso hit into a double play however Trumbo scored from 3rd. Sox 3-10. Andrew Miller took over in the 6th and while he loaded the bases, he also had himself a scoreless inning. Alfredo Aceves went from closer to mop up guy when he took the mound in the 7th. Aceves pitched two scoreless innings this time when a win wasn’t on the line.
The Sox lost again and are looking at a sweep if they aren’t able to take tomorrow’s game. At least this game looked like a loss from the start, so it was a little bit less of a punch to the gut.
Red Sox 3 Angels 10 BOXSCORE
