GAME 148 – RANGERS AT ANGELS
ANAHEIM – Angels starter Kevin Appier gave up a five-spot to the Texas Rangers in the top of the first inning, but he settled down and allowed the Angels bats to take control, coming back for an 8-6 victory before 39,909 at Edison Field.
The win was the Angels’ fifth in a row and kept them tied with Oakland for first place in the A.L. West.
The Angels chipped away at the Rangers’ lead before finally taking the lead themselves. They scored twice in the second inning, twice in the third, and three times in the fifth. They added a run in the eighth for good measure.
The Angels had 13 hits in all, including home runs from Shawn Wooten, Tim Salmon and Adam Kennedy.
Scot Shields, one of six relievers used by the Angels, got the victory to improve to 5-3. Troy Percival pitched a scoreless ninth for his 39th save.
