The Red Sox hoped to be able to get one, just one win against the Angels in the series finale last night, but the strong start from Rubby De La Rosa would not be enough as the Red Sox bats were once again almost no hit by an opposing pitcher. The Sox would get shutout and the Angels would get a 4 game series sweep.
The Angels would get out to an early lead when De La Rosa gave up a single run in the 1st inning. Rubby gave up an RBI double to Josh Hamilton to put the Angels on the scoreboard. Sox 0-1. De La Rosa would hunker down and not give up another run until the 7th inning when he allowed an RBI sac fly to Calhoun to have the Angels up 2-0.
On the other side the Angels starter Matt Shoemaker was no hitting the Red Sox offense. The Sox didn’t get a hit until the 7th inning when Will Middlebrooks hit a double to put an end to his no hit bid. It would end up being the only hit that the Sox could muster during the whole game. Of course it should be noted that both David Ortiz and Mike Napoli were out of the lineup and Yoenis Cespedes was pulled from the 4th inning for a personal matter. So, it goes without saying that the Sox weren’t sending the most potent lineup up there against the Angels, but I still expected more than they gave. De La Rosa pitched well enough, but still got the loss.
Red Sox 0 Angels 2 BOXSCORE
WP: Shoemaker (12-4) LP: De La Rosa (4-5) SV: Grilli (1)
