The January 15th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Angels sign Ryan Mattheus, wondering when will the Angels get a Hall of Famer and much more…

The Story: The Angels signed reliever Ryan Mattheus to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training.
The Monkey Says: Breaking the mold a bit, Mattheus actually throws kinda hard, but he doesn’t actually miss any bats. In fact, his strikeout rate is disturbingly low. He does induce a fair amount of grounders though and has big league experience. He’ll be nice minor league depth, but he is way down the depth chart.

The Story: When will the Angels get a cap in the Hall of Fame?
The Monkey Says: This is a great call by Neyer to point out that some day Bobby Grich could finally get in and with the electorate in the BBWAA changing and alterations to all the silly subcommittees, Grich could sneak in before Trout. Scioscia has a chance too because he has just won so much, but I’m not sold that he gets into Cooperstown if he doesn’t win another World Series or at least appear in another World Series.

The Story: How Mike Trout stacks up to the greats after his first three full seasons.
The Monkey Says: Your latest edition of Trout porn.

The Story: The Angels should have an intriguing Triple-A team this year.
The Monkey Says: For a change. Seriously, the Bees teams have been miserable the last few years. This still isn’t a loaded team, but if it has guys like Heaney, Tropeano, Bedrosian and Kubitza, then there is at least a pretty nice look at the future to be had. Of course, there will still be the standard fare of retread veterans like Mattheus, Sanabia and Wheeler.

The Story: The win-now and win-later windows around baseball.
The Monkey Says: The Halos are definitely in win-now mode, but Dipoto has done a fine job this offseason of preparing for winning later as well.

The Story: The best and worst offseason trade of each team.
The Monkey Says: In case you haven’t thought about the Vernon Wells debacle in a little while.
