The Story: Josh Hamilton confessed to a relapse that involved “at least cocaine.”
The Monkey Says: He reportedly did not fail a test and the initial report from Heyman is that he will be treated as a first-time offender, which means no suspension. However, there are conflicting reports that MLB might have the discretion to discipline him due to his failed tests during his minor league days.


The Story: Mike Trout vows to steal more bases and cutdown on chasing high pitches.
The Monkey Says: Clearly he knows there are problems. It will be interesting to see exactly what he does to fix them.


The Story: Garrett Richards isn’t giving up on being ready for Opening Day.
The Monkey Says: The organization does not want to push him that hard, but he seems to be doing it himself. Hopefully they can prevent him from pushing too hard.


The Story: The Angels hired a mental skills coach for their minor leaguers.
The Monkey Says: Nice to see the Angels continuing to invest in progressive ways of developing players.


The Story: Mike Trout isn’t worried about the new rule requiring batters to keep one foot in the batter’s box.
The Monkey Says: He sure does take his time and step out a lot, so he probably should be a little more worried.

The Monkey Says: Great info here as it points out how Trout doesn’t actually chase high pitches, he just can’t make good contact. That might actually be harder to solve than if he did just have a problem with chasing pitches up in the zone.
