The April 16th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Hamilton’s contract does have relapse clauses, no decision on Richards return date yet and much more…

The Story: Josh Hamilton’s contract has three clauses in it that protect the team in the event of a relapse.
The Monkey Says: So we have now confirmed that the language exists, but the union remains insistent that the JDA and CBA supersede that language. The legal consensus seems to agree with the MLBPA, but in a weird way, the Angels might have a chance of enforcing those clauses because he wasn’t suspended.

The Story: The Angels claim they still haven’t decided when Garrett Richards will return.
The Monkey Says: He’ll start Sunday. He got knocked around a bit in his last rehab start, but he’s healthy. They can’t screw around with this anymore, especially with Weaver struggling and no idea what Wilson really is right now.

The Story: Mike Scioscia is confident that he will communicate with Hamilton this week.
The Monkey Says: He really seems to be totally out of touch with Josh as they don’t know what kind of support network he has right now. They don’t have a real idea of where he is with his rehab either, but at the same time defend having him rehab away from the team, which seems like a sure sign that they don’t care about him coming back.

The Story: Hamilton’s former Texas teammates are showing him support.
The Monkey Says: The players are all are rallying around Hamilton, at least those willing to speak publicly.

The Story: The Rangers should trade for Josh Hamilton.
The Monkey Says: There are some very valid arguments in that piece, but Rangers fans would lose their freaking minds if that were to happen.

The Story: Albert Pujols should lead the Angels through the Josh Hamilton mess.
The Monkey Says: Um, OK, sure, I guess. I don’t know how he can really do that. Sure, he can rally the clubhouse, but the issues around Hamilton come from the front office and I don’t know that Pujols has enough sway to get management to stop making themselves look bad in the media.

The Story: The Angels called up Adam Wilk and demoted Drew Rucinski.
The Monkey Says: Wilk was the readiest arm to come up and provide some length. He might even get sent down again before the next game. He’ll definitely get demoted when Richards returns.

The Story: Teams are clearly pitching Trout up-and-in more this year.
The Monkey Says: Which isn’t a surprise, but as I pointed out yesterday, he’s doing a much better job of laying off those pitches because he knows he can’t do much with them.

The Story: Roberto Baldoquin is taking his tough start in stride.
The Monkey Says: He’s off to a terrible, but he also has barely played any baseball recently, so nobody should be panicking, but it is hard not to given how much hype (and money) he was given coming into the year.
