The February 27th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Hamilton’s mentor encourages retirement, Richards makes more progress and much more…

The Story: A friend and mentor of Josh Hamilton is encouraging Josh to retire in the wake of his latest relapse.
The Monkey Says: This is hard to know what to make of as Silver is supposedly a friend, but I always question how much of a friend someone can be when they go to a reporter like this. The suggestion isn’t without merit, but it seems pretty tactless to be encouraging this path via a national columnist.

The Story: Garrett Richards threw a bullpen session that included pitches from the windup and breaking balls.
The Monkey Says: Everything continues to progress nicely. This is just about the only non-Hamilton news today, so relish it.

The Story: The financial implications of a potential Josh Hamilton suspension.
The Monkey Says: Like it or not, it is something that is a consideration.

The Story: Angels teammates offer support for Josh Hamilton.
The Monkey Says: Nobody knows what is going on, but they have their teammate’s back.

The Story: The Josh Hamilton situation and how it relates to MLB’s drug policy.
The Monkey Says: Nobody really knows what is going to happen as his suspensions during his minor league days factor in somehow. Most reports seem to indicate that one way or the other Hamilton’s suspension is at the discretion of the commissioner.

The Story: A Josh Hamilton absence won’t hurt the Angels.
The Monkey Says: No, it will, I already went through this back when we thought his shoulder was the only problem. It isn’t a huge impact thanks to the acquisition of Matt Joyce, but it also means that the Halos still need to fill at-bats at DH if Joyce is in the field.

The Story: If addiction is an illness, Josh Hamilton shouldn’t be suspended.
The Monkey Says: Considering this is reportedly a one-time relapse and that Hamilton actively and publicly works on his recovery, any suspension would be punitive. This isn’t a case of needing to suspend a guy to give him a wake up call or give him time to seek treatment. We will see if Commissioner Manfred agrees.

The Story: Josh Hamilton’s situation reminds us of the frailty of man.
The Monkey Says: Hang on, folks, the links are about to get real depressing.

The Story: Josh Hamilton is someone worth rooting for.
The Monkey Says: I know a lot of Angels fans are upset about his on-field performance, but that’s no reason not to root for his recovery.

The Story: Josh Hamilton will need an improbable comeback to prove his worth.
The Monkey Says: He needed an improbable comeback before this relapse anyway.

The Story: This year’s edition of the MLB uniform power rankings.
The Monkey Says: I actually like the red alternate.
