The January 21st, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including the importance of Iannetta, watching Mike Trout’s strikeouts and much more…
The Story: The performance and health of Chris Iannetta is vital to the Angels.
The Monkey Says: With Butera, Perez and Bandy as the next ones up on the depth chart, Iannetta really needs to play well and play a lot this season to prevent the catching position from becoming an offensive black hole. All three of those guys are better defenders, so losing Iannetta isn’t a total loss, but we are generally talking about guys who figure to be replacement level players this year. How heavily Iannetta, who has a lengthy injury history, gets worked by Scioscia will be very interesting to watch. It will also be curious to see if the Angels add another veteran backstop on a minor league deal before training camp.
The Story: Mike Trout’s strikeout total will be one of that top stats to watch this year.
The Monkey Says: Really? I don’t think so. He’s going to strikeout a lot. It is a side effect of his patience at the plate. It would be nice if he didn’t strike out as much as he did last year, but clearly he can be the best player in baseball despite all those whiffs. That seems to me like an interesting stat, but not top 10 interesting.
The Story: Visualizing the performance of the Angels hitters.
The Monkey Says: If you look color scale tables, this is for you.
