The May 5th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Jered Weaver’s uncertain future, Carlos Perez called up and much more…

The Story: Jered Weaver is looking at an uncertain future as a result of his struggles and velocity loss.
The Monkey Says: Everyone talks about Weaver reinventing himself, but he’s going to have to do that on the fly, which won’t be easy. The Angels are already at a point where they have to wonder just how long to keep running him out there if he is going to keep losing them games before they ever really get started.

The Story: The Angels called up Carlos Perez and designated Drew Butera for assignment.
The Monkey Says: Perez was a guy the Angels liked so this is more about him forcing his way into the Majors than Butera failing out of the lineup. Actually, this is a lot more to do with Chris Iannetta being awful so far, thus prompting the team to see if Perez might not be ready to come up and start stealing playing time from Iannetta. Butera was always strictly a back up, but Perez has enough upside to be a more palatable timeshare partner.

The Story: Visualizing Jered Weaver’s decline.
The Monkey Says: I can’t decide whether to cry, vomit or cry-vomit. That batted ball data is just so damn ugly. He doesn’t need to reinvent himself, he needs to become an entirely new person.

The Story: Meet the Angels’ longest season ticket-holder.
The Monkey Says: 55 years is a lot baseball. I want to know how many hot dogs he has consumed over that time. It has to be upwards of 3,000, right?
