The Story: No structural damage was revealed in Jered Weaver’s hip MRI.
The Monkey Says: He still won’t touch a ball for five days though. This strongly suggests that Weaver isn’t likely to miss much time. Whether or not that is a good thing remains to be seen.
The Story: Mike Trout has taken the lead in American League outfielder All-Star voting.
The Monkey Says: Hmmm, the league claimed all along that there was nothing unusual about the Royals getting so many votes, but after telling everyone that they’ve scrubbed 60 million votes this year and seen several accounts online about how easy it is to automate voting, the Royals magically start falling off in the voting. This won’t help the Angels though. Pujols remains fifth in first base voting and no other Angels shows up anywhere in the results
The Story: The nature of Albert Pujols’ revival.
The Monkey Says: The explanation offered is some mechanical adjustments at the plate, but there is nothing there to suggest that this prolific level of productivity he is currently on will be sustainable. He might still be pretty good, but at some point pitchers will adjust to him again and avoid his renewed power.
The Story: Tyler Skaggs says he wants to pitch for the Angels in 2015.
The Monkey Says: He said this earlier in the year only to later back off, presumably at the behest of the team. Now he is playing the same tune again, but the Halos are unlikely to listen. There is no sense in rushing him back to the majors. The team doesn’t even seem all that sure about having him pitch in the minors either.
The Story: Jahmai Jones is adjusting to pro ball.
