The March 10th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Pestano trying to stay relevant, perspective on a potential Hamilton suspension and much more…

The Story: Vinnie Pestano is trying to stay relevant.
The Monkey Says: He is on the roster bubble, but he also has a partially guaranteed contract, a 40-man roster spot and (I think) no options left. That should give him a big leg up to make the Opening Day roster. The Angels can then let him succeed or fail in the early season and cut bait then if they feel the need.

The Story: A former addict offers his perspective on what a potential suspension for Josh Hamilton would do and mean.
The Monkey Says: The letter of the law does not favor Hamilton, but there is a lot of sentiment for leniency since he doesn’t appear to be an active and habitual user based on the information that has been leaked. As such, it would seem punitive to hit him with a long ban. Then again, punishments are supposed to be punitive. The current standard of MLB isn’t about suspending guys so they can get help, it is about punishing them. Manfred can, and probably should, change that precedent, but he is in no way obligated to do so.

The Story: Roberto Baldoquin is finally expected to arrive in camp this week.
The Monkey Says: Visa may be everywhere you want to be, but you can’t always be where you want to be if you don’t have the right visa.

The Story: Mike Trout doesn’t think the new pace of play rules are a problem.
The Monkey Says: He’s lived with them for about a week now and doesn’t think that it has impacted his routine.

The Story: Drew Butera brings a veteran presence to the Angels roster.
The Monkey Says: The first in what is sure to be a long line of puff pieces playing up Butera’s character so people are less upset about him being completely unable to hit. He’s basically this year’s John McDonald.

The Story: Cam Bedrosian is hoping to follow in his father’s footsteps.
The Monkey Says: Spring Training, the time of year where there is a proliferation about players and their dads.

The Story: C.J. Wilson was legally required to build a rotary Mazda Miata.
The Monkey Says: I know nothing about cars but I gather that this was either cool or weird or both.

The Story: The worst American League uniforms of all-time.
The Monkey Says: I’m sure you’ll never guess which Angels uniform was considered the worst in team history.
